  1. Known problems and workarounds.
  2.  
  3. *   VESA boards. If you have a board which support VESA, but doesn't seem to
  4.     work correctly (all modes not there) it mat be your memory manager which
  5.     is confusing VESA. Make a system floppy in drive A (format /u /s). Boot from
  6.     the floppy in drive A and then try to run VPIC. If it now works correctly,
  7.     it's your memory manager. You should exclude the regions from B000-BFFF
  8.     (if you run windows) and C000-CFFF (video BIOS). You may also have to
  9.     disable Stealth mode if you are using it. Some cards didn't implement VESA
  10.     return info correctly (older S3 cards and others), so for these you can
  11.     configure with the VESA config file, and do 'vpic /v'.
  12.  
  13. *   Trident TVGA 8900c VESA says it can do 640x480 and 800x600 in 64K colors
  14.     without a Sierra DAC. Use Alt C from menu and select 1 (256 colors) for
  15.     proper Targa viewing. Also, you can configure with the TRID8900 config file
  16.     and do 'vpic /v' from DOS to ignore VESA.
  17.  
  18. *   Older S3 boards (Orchid Fahrenheit 1280 and Diamond Stealth) return wrong
  19.     bytes/line and mode attributes. Use 'vpic /v' to call VPIC.
  20.  
  21. *   All ATI boards: ATI will not enable the 800x600 mode unless you pick a
  22.     monitor in their SETUP program that is capable of doing the 800x600 mode.
  23.     I had to use a custom configuratoin to get the 800x600 mode to work.
  24.  
  25. *   ATI Ultra/8514: You have to run ATI's HDILOAD TSR program to enable the
  26.     8514A interface once before running VPIC.
  27.  
  28. *   ATI Ultra Pro supports VESA in all but the hi_color modes. Since ATI doesn't
  29.     support them thru VESA, VPIC doesn't support them.
  30.  
  31. *   The IBM ThinkPad 700c has a VESA.COM TSR program you must run once to enable
  32.     VESA before running VPIC.
  33.  
  34. *   Newer S3 boards say they are VESA ver 1.2, but are really VESA ver 1.1.
  35.     S3 is correcting for new BIOS (4-93). Workaround: Use S3NEW.CFG and edit to
  36.     conform to the modes your card will do. Then, configure VPIC with the S3
  37.     config file and do 'vpic /v'. This applies to the following (and probably
  38.     more) cards:
